DESIGN PRINCIPLES + PRACTICES
Course Experiences:
Students are introduced to the foundations of graphic design. Students will gain an understanding of fundamental terminology and technical issues in graphics and design. Presentations and discussions will introduce the incorporation of digital imagery into the disciplines of graphic design, illustration and photography. In addition, students will survey other design disciplines such as industrial design, architecture, etc. Students are introduced to several Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
Course Experiences:
Introduction to terminology, typeface anatomy, style, specification and use of typography. Concentration is on the aesthetic and communicative aspects of typography. The application of techniques are used to integrate type, images and grid layout. Emphasis is placed on basic design principles and the fundamentals of typography. As students progress, the emphasis shifts to experimentation with type-centric design and exploration of type with images.
Course Experiences:
Focus on the design and production process of corporate identity systems and brand identity. Students utilize a systematic approach to comprehensive corporate identity from concept development through design and production. Students create various components including logos, signage, fleet graphics, stationery packages, and identity manuals.
Course Experiences:
Students further develop their skills in typography and layout through more complex projects such as annual reports, catalogs and product brochures. Students also transition into 3D advertising and direct mail projects.
